The results state,

“Fluoride uptake in vascular walls was demonstrated in 361 sites of 54 (96%) patients, whereas calcification was observed in 317 sites of 49 (88%) patients. Significant correlation between fluoride uptake and calcification was observed in most of the arterial walls, except in those of the abdominal aorta. Fluoride uptake in coronary arteries was demonstrated in 28 (46%) patients and coronary calcifications were observed in 34 (56%) patients. There was significant correlation between history of cardiovascular events and presence of fluoride uptake in coronary arteries. The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events” (Li, Berenji, Shaba, Tafti, Yevdavev, Dadparvar, 2012).

On September 30, the BPP Water Corporation in Spencer, Indiana stopped adding fluoride to the drinking water for approximately 10,500 people. BPP services the Indiana communities of Spencer, Stinesville, Patricksburg and Bowling Green. The water company cited the rising cost of fluoride as a major factor in their decision.

In Florida, approximately 700,000 people will be free from fluoridated water later this fall. The Commissioners of Pinellas County voted 4-3 to end the seven-year practice of adding fluoride to the drinking water after hearing its potential harm from dozens of concerned citizens. The decision to end fluoridation and save taxpayers approximately $200,000 per year was made even after substantial pressure from numerous dentists and the Florida Dental Association was put on commissioners. Pinellas County provides water to communities like Tarpon Springs, parts of Clearwater, parts of Oldsmar, Pinellas Park, Safety Harbor, and many of the incorporated areas along the beach communities. St. Petersburg will continue to fluoridate as it operates its own water system.

There are also a number of communities that will be holding upcoming votes and public hearings on fluoridation in the coming months, including:

• Williams Lake, British Columbia: On November 19th, residents will be asked to vote on a fluoride ballot question: "The cost to add fluoride to the City’s water system is increasing from $22,000 per year to approximately $94,000 per year. Are you in favour of the City continuing to add fluoride to its water supply."

• Churchill, Manitoba: On October 18th, citizens will have the opportunity to vote on a fluoridation referendum.

• Austin, Texas: On October 18th at 3pm, the City Council’s Public Health and Human Services sub-committee will hold a public hearing on why the Austin Utility Department should place a fluoridation health warning on Austin’s water bills. The warning will alert residents to the risks associated with consuming fluoride, and tell them how they can reduce these risks.

• Aspen, Colorado: On October 11, the City Council will hold their next meeting. They are expected to continue the debate on whether or not to continue fluoridating the drinking water, and possibly make a decision.

• Hot Springs, Florida: Councilors will be studying the fluoridation issue, and will be taking public comment at upcoming meetings.

• Bethel, Alaska: On October 11, the City Council will be holding their second public hearing on a resolution banning fluoridation.

• Damariscotta And Newcastle, Maine: On November 8, the residents of these two towns have the opportunity to vote on a fluoridation referendum on their local ballots.

• Hartland, Michigan: On November 15, the Township Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing to consider whether it should stop adding fluoride to its drinking water amid health concerns.

The research team reports, “It is important to be aware of this serious problem and avoid the use of toothpaste and items that contain fluoride, particularly in children as they are more susceptible to the toxic effects of fluoride” (1)

“Fluoride can be toxic by ingesting one part per million (ppm), and the effects are not immediate, as they can take 20 years or more to become evident,” they write.

Most fluoridating US public drinking water suppliers add fluoride chemicals to deliver 1 ppm fluoride (equal to about 1 milligram per quart) intending to benefit teeth and not to purify the water.

“Fluoridation clearly jeopardizes our children and must be stopped,” says attorney Paul Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. “We can actually see how fluoride has damaged children’s teeth with dental fluorosis; but we can’t see the harm it’s doing to their brains and other organs. No US researcher is even looking,” says Beeber.

Valdez-Jimenez, et al. describe studies that show fluoride induces changes in the brain’s physical structure and biochemistry which affects the neurological and mental development of individuals including cognitive processes, such as learning and memory.

“Fluoride is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, which may cause biochemical and functional changes in the nervous system during pregnancy, since the fluoride accumulates in brain tissue before birth,” they write.*

Animal studies show fluoride’s toxic brain effects include classic brain abnormalities found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Valdez-Jimenez’s team reports.

A different research team (Tang et al.) reported in 2008 that “A qualitative review of the studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure

In 2006, the US National Research Council’s (NRC) expert fluoride
panel reviewed fluoride toxicology and concluded, “It’s apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain.” And,“Fluorides also increase the production of free radicals in the brain through several different biological pathways. These changes have a bearing on the possibility that fluorides act to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.” (3)

Andrew Young, former U.N. Ambassador and former Atlanta Mayor, along with Reverend Dr. Gerald Durley, Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Atlanta, both inductees in the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, expressed concerns about the fairness, safety, and full disclosure regarding fluoridation in letters to the state’s minority and majority legislative leaders.

Studies show that despite fluoridation, tooth decay is higher in blacks. Dental fluorosis, caused by overexposure to fluoride which can result in pitting of tooth enamel and mottling of the teeth, is also higher in blacks.

The Department of Health and Human Services proposes to lower water fluoride levels to alleviate the growing dental fluorosis epidemic but the Fluoride Action Network submitted scientific evidence to HHS indicating that, to preserve health, fluoridation must stop completely.

"My father was a dentist," Young said. "I formerly was a strong believer in the benefits of water fluoridation for preventing cavities. But many things that we began to do 50 or more years ago we now no longer do, because we have learned further information that changes our practices and policies."

Fluoride has been linked to many health problems, according to FAN, including lowered IQ in 24 human studies and damage to the brain in over 100 animal studies.

"The National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences has designated kidney patients, diabetics, seniors andbabiesas ‘susceptible subpopulations’ that are especially vulnerable to harm from ingested fluorides." Dudley said. "Black citizens are disproportionately affected by kidney disease and diabetes, and are therefore more impacted by fluorides."

Infants, one of the sensitive subpopulations, who are fed formula made with fluoridated tap water will receive up to 175 times more fluoride than breast-fed infants, according to FAN. Infants zero to six months old, the smallest and most vulnerable in our population, were completely excluded from risk calculations in HHS’s proposal.

"I am most deeply concerned for poor families who have babies." Young said. "If they cannot afford unfluoridated water for their babies’ milk formula, do their babies not count?"

"This is an issue of fairness, civil rights, and compassion," he said. "We must find better ways to prevent cavities, such as helping those most at risk for cavities obtain access to the services of a dentist."

The attack on water fluoridation is just one of many building across the country. Others include: An American Association for Justice Newsletter for trial lawyers describes potential fluoride legal actions based on personal injury, consumer fraud, and civil rights harm; a bipartisan group of Tennessee legislators, in a letter to their state’s Health Commissioner, expressed their concern about fluoridation’s undesirable impact on babies and other groups; a bipartisan group of New York City Council Members has also introduced legislation to stop fluoridation in NYC; and, in Central Texas, Austin’s City Council recently held a hearing on fluoridation in response to pressure from local citizens.

"I support the holding of ‘Fluoride-gate’ hearings at the state and national level," Durley said, "so we can learn why we haven’t been openly told that fluorides build up in the body over time [and] why our government agencies haven’t told the black community openly that fluorides disproportionately harm black Americans…"

Dr. Paul Connett, Professor of Chemistry at St. Lawrence University in New York, gives a damning interview on the history of water fluoridation, the collusion of major industries to put certified toxic waste into your drinking water, and why government health authorities refuse to conduct scientific studies into the dangers of fluoridation. Connett describes how he initially thought people who opposed fluoridation were “a bunch of whackos,” before conducting his own research which found that sodium fluoride was a toxic substance that contributed to a wide array of health defects. Heavy industry is barred from dumping this toxic waste into the sea by international law, but being able to sell it enables them to remove its hazardous characteristic and it becomes a product, explains Connett, polluting not only our water supply but also toothpaste and thousands of different foods.

Connett provides a detail run down of the many health problems caused by fluoride consumption, including dental fluorosis, which the Centers For Disease Control just recently announced was a problem for 41 per cent of children aged 12-15 in the United States, clearly indicating that children are being over-exposed to fluoride and that this is affecting other tissues and organs in the body, including bone disorders, a problem also wreaking havoc amongst adults in the United States as one in three now suffer from arthritis, which again is being caused by a build-up of toxic fluoride in the body. Connett also points to fluoride’s connection with thyroid disorders.

There have now been over 100 studies involving animals which show that fluoride damages the brain, stresses Connett, which is a particular concern for newborn babies who are susceptible to fluoride build up because of their weak blood-brain barrier. Connett cites numerous studies which prove a link between moderate exposure to fluoride and lowered IQ in children.

Fluoride’s impact on the pineal gland, which is a piece of brain tissue that sits in-between the two hemispheres of the brain, is key because fluoride attracts to this gland like a magnet. Researchers have found through animal studies that fluoride lowers the ability of the pineal gland to produce the hormone melatonin, which in turn shortens the time it takes to reach puberty, correlating with studies of fluoridated communities that show girls are on average menstruating 5 months earlier than those in non-fluoridated communities.

Children are entering puberty at increasingly early stages and this is causing widespread concern, but health authorities have made no effort whatsoever to conduct any studies regarding this development and its link to fluoride.

Health authorities in western countries, particularly the United States, are deliberately covering-up the deadly threat posed by fluoride by refusing to conduct any studies into its impact on health, as Connett explains. They have chosen to protect the sanctity of the method of mass fluoridation over and above protecting the health of babies and children. Connett emphasizes the fact that there is virtually no difference in the health of teeth between people in fluoridated areas and non-fluoridated areas, proving that there are no health benefits at all that can be achieved through fluoridating the water supply.

Connett underscores how out of control health authorities in the United States have become, putting out studies that claim injecting mercury into a baby’s bloodstream through vaccines is perfectly safe and good for babies’ brains, while regulating mercury emissions in every other field because it is highly toxic. They have taken a similar approach in the fluoride debate, issuing studies that claim sodium fluoride, a toxic waste which has been heavily regulated in the industrial sphere for decades, has many beneficial health advantages when ingested into the human body. This is fostering widespread distrust in government health agencies because scientists involved with them are overseeing a “sickening” cover-up of the fluoride issue, states Connett.

This is a highly detailed and in-depth one hour study of the case against fluoride and it demolishes the notion that fluoride has any rightful place in our public water supply.

In a letter published in the Cumberland Times-News, Miltenberger notes that he first became aware of the issue in an engineering report for the city of Boulder, Colo. The report noted that the fluoridation chemicals used for the city’s water had been evaluated, and were found to contain lead levels of 40 milligrams per bag and arsenic levels of 50 milligrams per bag. The bags were being imported from China under no regulatory monitoring of acid or salt content.
